May 2008

Things are going well in Singapore. We have a new interim regional director. The office is being moved to a new, less expensive location. In SE Asia we now have a new coworker, Ty to work with us along with our trainer, Janice.

We are in the USA!

John has been asked to go on active duty with the Air Force (in San Antonio) for a few months. This is a great opportunity for us to spend time with grandkids, conduct meetings in the San Antonio area.

John & I were able to stop in San Francisco to see our son, John Mark, for a couple days on our trip to the US. We had a good time with him. There is no change spiritually. Thank you for all your prayers on his behalf. We wait expectantly for them to be answered. After arriving in the US John, Esther & Janice Reid (our trainer from New Zealand-who lives in Indonesia) enjoyed time with the folks at the engineering facility in Elkhart, Indiana, and collected equipment to take back to Singapore.
Next, Esther & Janice attended a week-long counselor-training program in Michigan which was a very good experience. Long-time like-family-friend Ellice lost her 1st baby pre-birth (7 months). Her missionary parents were able to come home to spend time with her & the rest of their family.

Back in San Antonio, John started his AF work while keeping up with HCJB work and grandkids. Esther had babysitting duty evenings for a week while Beth was in Chicago at a conference. Janice enjoyed a week in SA where she saw the sights and enjoyed new friends. I (Esther) spent a day at the hospice with Cherie Ganaway/ Morris, our 30 year old friend who has been fighting cancer for a year. I was glad to be able to be in the US to help with her care again, as I do some each time we visit (around twice a year).

I flew to Oklahoma to spend a few weeks with daughter, Sarah, Jake, and 17 month old Kaedence. (I loved it!) As soon as I arrived in Oklahoma I heard that Cherie had lost her battle with cancer. I missed the funeral but John & our daughter & her family went. It has been extremely hard on daughter, Beth, who was very close to Cherie. We miss Cherie very much. She left two small children. John’s mother, age 84, went home to be with the Lord. We plan to attend the memorial service next month in New York, which is where John & his brother grew up. (His brother & mother currently live in California.)

Thanks for praying!

In His Great Love,

John & Esther Brewer
