Paula and I are in Thailand from May 3-19th. We would appreciate prayer for
good health (especially Paula) and our opportunities to counsel with
missionaries and put on workshops. Paula will lead a moms in touch seminar
and we will be ministering in a orphanage and thai churches.

Last week the hospital called us to come in to do yet another ultrasound on Thomas’s kidney before the scheduled surgery of May 14. We went on Tuesday, and the doctor called us the day after to tell us that Thomas no longer needs surgery! We thank God for working! Your prayers were heard! Thank you. We are so excited and relieved that he will not have to go through all of that! We have seen the hand of God working for our good in this whole process. He has given us peace all along the way. We were concerned, but we knew Thomas was going to be o.k. one way or the other, either through the surgery or through him healing without it. We know God doesn’t always work this way, but we rejoice that he chose to heal Thomas without medical intervention. Thank you for being a part of this! The church here has also been encouraged to see how God has worked. And as we say our goody-byes to our neighbors and contacts, we’ve gotten one last chance to share how good and gracious is our God. We’re especially grateful for such a powerful message to our neighbor Alessandra, who performed the last ultrasound and has been involved with us through the whole process. We have another friend named Mirco who is a doctor in the Urology department that we hope will be touched by this, too. Perhaps Thomas’ doctors will conclude that he just “grew out of the problem,” but when we tell them we’ve been praying, the response so far has been “It worked.” Originally, his kidney looked so bad they wanted to do the surgery before March, but somehow the date kept getting pushed back.

Yesterday Sarah took her 1 am flight – San Pedro Sula to Florida to TX, en route to Oklahoma City (OKC), for her three month summer internship. She is en route to the rest of her life, and we enjoyed special family times this week — as she flew from our nest into her eager-to-be-arrived-to journey. We have encouraged her through the years to individualize her walk with the Lord, making it her own. We have drawn attention – through the years – less with specific behaviors, but more with inner values. Her time in Egypt last year complimented with her time in Peru the previous summer stirred and awoke within Sarah her an awareness of personalized identity and individuality. This last month, to our surprise and glee, she talked with her church (a CAM-mission church here in Honduras) that she wanted to be baptized before heading north. There was no “official” baptism planned for that month, yet she took the bull by the horns. She had no concern that no one else was also slotted to identify with Jesus publically. And so that was fun! She has blossomed. Please be with Sarah in spirit as she ministers in the inner city this summer (three months – MAY, JUNE, JULY) in OKC. And, too, for her trek to John Brown University in Arkansas in AUGUST.

Thank
you for
your prayers for the 9th Planning Conference that the Russian Baptist Union (RBU) and e3 Partners held on the first week of April in Saransk. It went well. Some people could not come, but we recorded all sessions on video, however, to send DVDs to those who could not attend. At the Conference we had a full RBU representation:
Yuri Sipko (RBU President),
Ruvim Voloshin (Missions VP),
Eugene Chepikov (RBU Missions Director),
Amir Usmonov (RBU Youth Missions Director) were all present. Our e3 Russia Team was present as well:
Alex, Aleksey and
Vitalia did a good job giving testimonies about short-term missions and e3;
Pavel gave a good talk on starting new churches during e3 short-term missions.
Denis led part of worship, helped in technical area, and presented e-cubes.
Sergey was recording all events.
Marat did a marvelous job in organizing the local churches and believers to host the conference.
I talked about biblical approach to church planting and presented the First Steps.
Alexander was in Kranodar region participating in e-cube training and campaign, so he could not come. During the Conference we also had many good conversations with the region representatives as we planned ministry together with them in their regions. We had no trouble, whatsoever, from
NASHI. The Lord answered your prayers and blessed the Conference. The main results of the Conference are that e3 Russia Team engaged the RBU missions department into preparations for summer missions and the RBU youth department integrated e3 training into the youth evangelism strategy. e3 Russia Team was encouraged to see good results and good perspectives for ministry. After the Conference we already had another meeting in Moscow where we allocated specific regions in Russia for mobilization and training. About 45 regions of Russia are going to be involved in Empower2008. Praise the Lord!
Thanks to your prayers and support. I began to work on my three Doctorate classes at DTS this summer. We will be coming to Dallas next month to work on these classes, as well as at e3 Partners.
Thank you for standing firmly with us as we train a new generation to “contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 3)! In 2008 we continue to work with the Russian Baptist on the Empower 2008 Project, reaching thousands more people in Russia for Christ. We
are so grateful to you for your prayers, support and care.
We pray that God would continue to bless you abundantly as you serve Him in the partnerships with us in Russia.
Please,
pray for
-
English Club in Penza; new people come each week;
- Following the strategic plan for Empower 2008;
- Good progress in the D.Min program in 2008;
- Mobilization of short-term mission teams for the summer work in the Russian regions.
God bless you! We will keep you updated.

The real value of persistent prayer is not so much that we get what we want as that we become the person we should be. Philip Yancey
Our Precious Partners in Prayer, You prayed for the advisory committee meetings that took place the first week of April. So much important work was accomplished during these meetings. Larry felt supported, guided and helped by the hard work of God’s people on the committee. It was a special joy to have Larry’s supervisors here. They always open our eyes to the bigger picture, encourage us and build us up in the Lord.
Immediately after the meetings we set out once again for Gemena. You might remember that Gemena is in the huge country next to Brazzaville called Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It is always quite an adventure going to Gemena. This time we had the smoothest crossing of the Congo River ever. We got seats on the little U.S. Embassy boat. Our time in Gemena was rich. It is always amazing to us to visit the Bible translation projects going on there under desperately difficult conditions. These faithful Congolese men and women of God persevere cheerfully, supporting each other. It is an honor to serve them. We had a special treat this time because one of our dear colleagues, Michael Buchanan, had arrived in Gemena a few days before us. He had gone to help them with a new accounting program. He also spent two days training the translators in “paratext” a computer program that provides wonderful helps for Bible translators. We also visited the orphanage. What joy to see the improvements since our last visit. This time the interior was painted and there were brand new bunk beds! It is probably the first time these children have ever slept in a bed. The children looked happy and healthy. Wednesday morning we were all packed and ready to go when we received the phone call. There was a plane crash in the eastern part of DRC, and the plane that was supposed to pick us up had gone out to the east to help. Our flight was cancelled. Now what? Our colleagues and partners in Bangui mobilized to get us a visa in case we had to go overland through Bangui. You were praying and all our colleagues were praying. The plane came on Saturday and we were able to get seats on it. We got back to Brazzaville Sunday morning with just two days left before we leave for the International Conference taking place in Asia.
Please be praying for the conference. We leave tomorrow morning. I (Cami) will be doing French Simultaneous translation for the conference. Please pray for fluency and the ability to transmit the message clearly with no time to think about it. Larry is an official delegate to the conference, and he will also be a small group facilitator. Pray for wisdom as he leads his small group through processing new ideas. The conference is two weeks long and then we continue around the world to Dallas! Pray for rest and refreshment while we are there. Thank you for your faithful prayers!
Love and prayers,

Requests sent April 15, 2008:1. Pilot Preschool teachers course took place April 6-12. Thank you so much for your prayers. God gave focus for preparations and freedom in teaching this group of experienced preschool teachers. They were much appreciative of the course and gave good input for a few improvements. The preschool Sunday School video last Sunday was amazing! Though we only had four children and obly one had English as her mother language the children were very natural and responsive. God gave Jennifer and me unity as we team taught these little ones. 5 year old Savannah shared that she had put her trust in Jesus last week. God answered your prayers! I am planning to use this video or at least some clips from it in my teaching about the preschool child in our Leadership Institute training this summer and autumn.
2. Please pray for my May 20th appointment with Dr Müller as we discuss the results of the bone density scan and decide whether or not I will be taking (Femara letrozole) - I have been doing some internet research and have some more questions about the side effects. If you know of others who have experience with this drug, I would appreciate their input.
3. Pray for God to direct my steps during my time in the States. I am in the greater Cleveland Akron area April 18 - 29/ then I am at the CEF International Conference April 30 - May 5/ then I have family time - including a trip to Arizona for my nephew’s graduation May 6 - 12 pray that I will be aware of opportunities God gives to share Christ with family - neither Emil nor Nancy, nor my nephews Ben and Dan know Jesus / and then I return to Cleveland - Akron until my departure on May 17.
Note: tonight some of us ladies at the CEF center will be visiting a coworker’s wife for a crafts night. Claudia enjoys teaching crafts and painting and I’m looking forward to a good time of fellowship. A couple of the ladies coming with are at-home moms and we don’t see them that often either. (Claudia & family live just over the border in Germany… it is gently snowing) (C:
4. Please keep praying for God’s provision for my 2008 budget increase. It is greater, because of the weak dollor. But our God is greater than even this.
Thank you for praying with me.

We are preparing to move so this will be short as possible and to the point, but we really need your prayers.
WE HAVE A DATE FOR THOMAS’ SURGERY! May 13 we will go in for another ultrasound, and they will perform the surgery on May 14th. We are hoping the ultrasound will show God has already chosen to heal his kidney, but if not we are trusting God to take care of him and us. Hillary and Thomas will remain in the hospital 5 days after the surgery. We will already be living in the house in Sesto Calende at that point, which will mean an hour commute to the hospital. There will also be a team here from the States. All of this means I will not have much help with Mary Joyce because of the distance and because everyone will be busy with the team. Pray for all of us, especially Thomas and Hillary. One student in particular seems close to making a decision to trust Christ! Pray for him (Francesco) and for the students and neighbors with whom we have been sharing our faith. It is hard to find time for everyone in the midst of preparing the house in Sesto and packing the house in Milan. Pray for them and our ability to be loving but forward with the Gospel.
A two-week mission team will arrive from the U.S. May 13th and leave on the 26th. We already knew it would be a hectic time because of the move, but now we will have the surgery the first week they are here as well. There will be a lot of help but it will be hard all the same. Pray for the team, the leaders, and myself.
We are moving on April 26th. It’s been stressful going back and forth trying to get everything done. God has blessed us with a lot of help with the physical work we had to do on the house. A couple we had only met through e-mail came from Germany to help, because they felt led to do so. There is still some work to be done and the expenses keep mounting, but God keeps sending us encouragements along the way. Pray for a smooth transition and financial provision.
June 3 we are leaving to go to the U.S. for three months of home ministry. We will be visiting churches and as many of you as possible. Besides catching up with friends and family, we need to raise funds to cover the expenses of our relocation as well as raise more monthly support. Keep these plans and our travels in your prayers.
What would we do without your support? You may not feel like you are doing much when you pray, but please believe me that we feel the difference when you do. It’s a mystery of our faith but a reality all the same. Thank you all.

Dear Family and Faithful Supporters,
So sorry I didn’t get a letter off to you before SIMCO (SIM Candidate Orientation) February 23 - March 15 as we were busy moving into our new SIMKids House! I told you in my last letter that I would tell you about this SPECIAL home that was donated by the Moss family to SIM and moved down the street and on to our SIM USA property!!
Picture 1: This is how the house looked once it was placed on the lot after the site was cleared. It was moved by a huge truck and trailer. After the house was in the right position, the foundation and basement had to be constructed underneath. It was like watching giant legos being built up.
Picture 2 : This is a rear view of the house. The size was nearly doubled by constructing the basement underneath. The big news is that on February 25 Helen Inman, Ruth Gibbs and I welcomed nine school-aged kids to the SIMKids House for SIMCO. Care for ten younger children was in the Residence and Lodge SIMKids Playroom. Thanks to the hard work of our SIM crew and many volunteers, the house is on a full basement which will be used for recreational activities. The main level of the house has four classrooms, a library, kitchen/craft room, and two restrooms. The hallway is wide enough for small group meetings and we imagine many special activities on both the front and back porches.
The third floor contains space for our 3 MK Care team offices, a small conference and play area for visiting MKs. Best of all, there are lots of closets and places to store teaching materials and curios !
On March 10, 2008 the Moss family and SIM USA Board Members shared a time of refreshments and seeing the house. Afterwards, the Moss family, SIMCO participants, and many SIMers gathered on the lawn for the dedication of the SIMKids House.
Joe Moss told us that his grandmother called their home “Shady Rest” and hosted “an untold number of mission meetings, picnics, and dinners in this house, so I think she would be very happy to see it being used by SIM as it is now to help spread the Word.”
Helen, Ruth and I have slowly adjusted to our new offices and can find most of our supplies now!!
We look forward to being more organized when our July 5-26 SIMCO takes place!!
SO THANKS for praying for me (even when you are not sure what I am up to!!)Continue to pray for our MKs around the world, especially the college kids .
We have 24 SIM kids graduating from 21 different colleges this spring. They will be looking for jobs and where God wants them next! Important and big questions to find answers for!! (Can you remember when you were 21?? and things are SO different now…)
We do PRAISE the Lord for many answers to prayer. This SIMKids house has been a big need in our MK ministry.
We are also most grateful for the many volunteers who helped our SIM crew with all the construction, renovations, and painting ETC….
And I Praise and Thank the Lord for YOU also and your faithful prayers, love and support. Some of you have been part of the team for the more than 43 years I’ve had the privilege of serving the Lord through SIM!! I am most grateful! My love and thanks,Elizabeth Howard

Scripture Publication: Asia. A new translation of the four Gospels and the
book of Acts has been completed for a major language in a sensitive country
in Asia. It will be published in April. Pray that it will be well received
and that press coverage will be positive. Pray for wide distribution and
effective use of this fresh translation. Pray that people who want to know
more about Christ will find copies of this book and will come to know Him
as Savior.
Bible Translators’ Training Course (TTC 08): Papua New Guinea. Pray for
Duncan Kasokason and Joe McCarthy as they work together on early planning
for this April 23-May 30 course; and for Steven Ttopoqogo who has agreed to
receive training to be the new principal. Course planners hope to run four
different modules simultaneously, TTC 1, 2, 3 and 4. All those involved
greatly value your prayers for the applicants and for the Steering
Committee dealing with staffing and policy issues. 54 participants from 17
languages are hoping to attend. Pray for God’s blessing resulting in high
quality Bible translations.
Bible translation mobilization: Guatemala. A national organization for the
mobilization of Bible translation is in the process of development in
Guatemala. The founders are Sergio and Ingrid Sandoval, who have met with
the leaders of Wycliffe Americas and Guatemala’s branch of COMIBAM.* Pray
for the safe and sure birth of this new movement and that God will help the
Sandovals to do this work. They ask that we pray for God’s provision for
their needs and for spiritual maturity to meet the challenges of the task
ahead of them.
*Cooperación Misionera Iberamericano, an international organization for
mobilization of missions
Global Day of Prayer: worldwide. The vision of the Global Day of Prayer
international committee is to see all 220 nations of the world participate.
The date is May 11, Pentecost Sunday. Currently 186 nations have
registered. Worldwide prayer is also encouraged for ten days leading up to
Pentecost, May 1-11. Please join in especially on Wednesday May 7 when the
focus is for “the Bible to be translated for the thousands of people groups
without even one verse in their language.” The guide is available in
thirty-two languages at www.globaldayofprayer.com.
Music evangelism: Ecuador. Believers from a local language group initiated
having a Christian music concert in their town in March. They approached
the local authorities and waited for permission to perform in the central
plaza downtown. Permission was granted. They invited several bands. As they
sang God’s praises, many local people came, believers, non-believers, young
men and people from other provinces. The church is hopeful that this will
be the first of an annual event. Pray God will give them many more
opportunities to publicly praise His name in song and glorify Him with
thanksgiving.
Psalm 69:30
Administrative Staff Need: Europe. At the end of January, prayer was
requested for work permits for expatriate staff members at an office in
Europe. Praise God that the needed work permits have been granted. Now the
next step, checking the appropriate qualifications and doing visa
applications for each individual, will be easier but still needs prayer.
Pray for Lena, the office worker responsible, as she works through the
required processes. Co-workers there write, “We’re grateful for the prayer
and for the way God is answering.”
Quechua women prepare workshops: Peru. Several Quechua women are preparing
to teach five Women of the Bible workshops during April, June, August,
October and November. Four new locations have been selected and women who
graduated from the 2007 courses are joining the teaching team. Praise God
that these women understand, prepare and apply God’s Word to their own
lives and also teach others in their churches and communities. Pray for all
who will be involved in the workshops during 2008 and for good results of
spiritual growth and encouragement. There are three to four and a half
million Quechua speakers in Peru.

Psalm 113.2-3
Let the name of the Lord be praised,
both now and forevermore.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised.
